How to organize an Americano padel tournament

Americano is one of the most social formats in padel. Everyone plays with and against everyone, partners rotate every round, and the ranking is based on individual points. Here's how to run one without the spreadsheet chaos.

1. What is Americano?

In Americano padel, players are paired differently each round. After each game, partners rotate so that over the course of the event, everyone has played with everyone else. Points are individual: your personal score counts, not your pair's.

This format is perfect for social club events, open days and mixed-ability groups because it levels the playing field and keeps everyone engaged until the last round.

2. How many players do you need?

Americano works best with groups of 8 to 24 players. With 8 players you get 7 rounds (everyone plays everyone). With larger groups, the system picks the optimal number of rounds automatically.

You'll need a number of players divisible by 4 (since each match is 2 vs 2). If you have an odd number, one player gets a bye each round.

3. Setting up in FasterPlay

  1. Log in and click Create tournament.
  2. Set the name, date and pick Padel as the sport.
  3. Choose Americano as the tournament type.
  4. Configure the number of games per match (e.g. first to 21 points).
  5. Share the entry link or QR code so players can sign up directly.

4. Running the rounds

Once all players have registered, generate the first round. FasterPlay pairs players automatically and displays matches on screen. After each round, enter the scores and the system recalculates the live ranking instantly.

The live scoreboard link can be displayed on a TV or tablet at the venue. No manual calculations needed.

5. Common mistakes to avoid

  • Uneven number of players: always confirm the final headcount before generating the first round.
  • Inconsistent scoring: agree on the match format (e.g. first to 21, unlimited time) before the event starts.
  • Skipping late entries: players who arrive late can be added before round 1, but not after.

6. After the tournament

The final ranking is sorted by total individual points. In case of a tie, head-to-head results are used as a tiebreaker. Share the results page link with participants so they can view the full table and match history.
