Americano tournament
Rules, configuration and management of an Americano tournament.
Americano is a tournament format based on individual scoring. In every round, players or pairs play a match up to a set number of points (for example 24), and those points are added up in a combined standings table. This means a single bad match does not knock anyone out of the competition — every point scored throughout the tournament counts.
To start a tournament in this format, simply select Americano when creating the event. The key decision is setting the scoring limit — the number of points each match is played to. The default is 24. The combined scores of both sides in every match must add up exactly to this value.
Creating a tournament
The organiser panel shows the core tournament settings: the scoring limit, the maximum number of pairs, and the type of competition. Americano supports fixed pairs (men's doubles and mixed) or a mixed-only variant. Settings can be changed up until the first round begins.
Tournament settings
The additional settings section allows you to change the tournament name, date and description. These fields are hidden by default and can be revealed using the 'Show additional settings' button.
Additional settings
The system displays information about the tournament field based on the number of registered pairs. When the number of participants is optimal (for example 4 pairs), a message appears confirming an ideal round distribution with no BYEs — every pair plays in every round. Otherwise, the system informs how many pairs will receive a BYE in each round.
Field and number of rounds
Players can be added manually from the organiser panel. In Americano there is no seeding — only the name of the player or pair and their type (men's doubles, women's doubles, mixed) matter. The order on the list has no effect on how the tournament runs.
Adding a player or pair
Instead of adding players manually, you can use the import function. Simply paste the list of participants in the required format and the system will process it automatically.
Importing players
Another way to collect entries is via an online form. The organiser shares a unique link with players, who can then fill in the form themselves with their pair name, phone number, and email address. Once submitted, the entry joins the pending queue and waits for the organiser to approve it.
Online registration form
Every new form submission appears in the organiser panel on the pending list. The organiser can accept or reject it. Once accepted, the player receives an email notification and the pair is added to the official participant list.
New entry awaiting approval
When the participant list is ready, the organiser checks a checkbox confirming that the list of present players has been reviewed. Only then does the button for drawing pairs and starting the tournament become active. Pairs in the first round are drawn at random.
Player list — confirmation and start
Once a round begins, the organiser sees a match table with fields for entering results. Results are entered as two numbers separated by a colon — their combined total must equal the set scoring limit (for example 18:6 with a limit of 24). The system notifies in real time once all matches in the round have been completed.
Entering results
After all match results have been confirmed and the round saved, the option to move to the next round appears. The system selects pairings for subsequent rounds with the goal of avoiding repeats as much as possible — every pair should face different opponents.
Advancing to the next round
Going back to a previous round is possible, but it means the results of the current round will be deleted. This requires a separate confirmation by checking the corresponding checkbox.
The tournament can be finished after a minimum of 2 rounds. Finishing requires a checkbox confirmation. Once finished, the final standings are available in a combined table and a PDF with the classification can be downloaded.
Finishing the tournament
The system also allows a finished tournament to be reactivated, for example to correct a result from the last round or to add an extra round. This action, like the others, requires the appropriate checkbox to be checked before the button is clicked.
